Abstract

Morphological data from problematic fossil taxa offer important new insights into perennial questions of deeper branching in arthropod phylogeny. A comprehensive new database of 97 morphological characters coded for 25 Recent, 28 Cambrian, and 9 other key fossil genera is presented. Parsimony analysis reveals much robust structure, although reduced cladistic consensus techniques demonstrate that resolution over large portions of the tree is frustrated by the mobility of a small number of rogue taxa.
