Project Information:
Abstract: This data set was developed to help place Onychonycteris finneyi, a new species of bat from the Early Eocene Green River formation of Wyoming, into the phylogenetic tree of bats. The data set is a modified version of one originally published by Simmons and Geisler (1998, 2002) and subsequently modified Gunnell and Simmons (2005). Some characters have been changed, notably features of the premaxilla, following Giannini and Simmons (2007). Other significant changes include addition of new data for Onychonycteris, removal of a poorly-known fossil taxon (Tanzanycteris), and treatment of Vespertilionidae and Miniopteridae as distinct families.
