Character 19. A3 (root): lateral groove: absent (0); present (1); inapplicable (-). Remarks: Unordered. This transformation series is similar to [characters 10 and 13]. Outgroup Sorex species and four ingroup species, M. okuensis, C. olivieri, C. zarudnyi, C. zaitsevi bear a lateral groove on the root part of A3 (well-developed or weak) (Character 019: B). The lateral groove in other ingroup species is absent (Character 019: A). This character is inapplicable for N. fodiens, C. obscurior, C. yaldeni, C. phanluongi, C. zaitsevi (Character 019: C) due to this species have well-developed second root remnant/well-developed anterior radicular canal of A3 [character 21, st. 2]; and D. pulchellum due to two-toothed dental formula.
