Media notes
Character 5. A1 (crown): medial transverse crest: absent (0); present (1). Remarks: Unordered. Dannelid (1998) described the complexity of the upper antemolars in different genera of soricids but he did not mention this character that occurs in several soricine and crocidurine genera. The medial crest pulls transversely from the main cusp to entocingulum, but did not reach it (Character 005: A). In Sorex and several ingroup species (e.g. S. megalura, S. johnstoni, C. jouvenetae) this structure is ridge-like crest; in other species (e.g. Neomys, C. olivieri, C. obscurior, C. lasiura) this structure is obtuse expanding of the lingual side of the main cusp (Character 005: B). The last state determined as 'absent' of the crest. A clear state the medial crest absence was determined for most ingroup species as smooth and slightly convex lingual side ('slope') of the main cusp (Character 005: C, D). For details see S8.
